In the contemporary developmental discourse, the idea of centre-periphery holds critical significance. In India where diversity is boundless, there are prevailing situations that reveal privileged or subjugated conditions among different social groups. The construction of marginality in terms of 'otherness' exemplifies the marginal position of the subjugated with respect to the centre/core. Marginals hold a peripheral position as they are excluded from accessing power at the centre. In the Indian context what is pertinent to understand is the nature of social power vis-a-vis the micro-politics of marginality with the temporality that entails historical processes. The aim of the panels is to capture the structural as well as experiential dimensions of marginality posing the problems and paradoxes beyond the established dichotomies/binaries of power-powerless and inside-outside, and adopting a lens that views subjectivities at the margins vis-a-vis the state, market and law that transform experiences of suffering, discrimination, powerlessness, lack of belonging, impoverishment and exclusion into narratives of struggle, resistance and quest for identity, dignity and justice. The question of how is education is situated /positioned in this dual worlds of marginalisation and counter-hegemony will also be further addressed.
