In the context of India, journals have played a big role in shaping anthropological understandings. It has been the tireless efforts and visions of a few individuals who have set up distinctive and diverse societies which then lead to the birth and nurturance of many anthropological journals in India. The culture continues however the journals have seen their own trajectories and focus based on their histories, academic and socio-political influences and influencers, and temporal contemporality.
It is important therefore to understand the history and rhythm of the journals to understand the discipline and its future in a holistic manner. This workshop will work towards understanding the history as well as the scope of various Anthropological journals in India and South Asia. Renowned editors such as Prof. Nilika Mehrotra (IAA), Dr. Sukant Chaudhury (Eastern Anthropologist), Subroto Roy (Journal of Indian Anthropological Society) as well as Member of the editorial team for the Asian Anthropology Society (published from Hong Kong) will be in conversation to look at the journeys of the Anthropological journals so far as well as their future trajectories.
