This panel is critically inscribed into anthropological traditions of research on emotions as socio-cultural phenomena (such as Rosaldo 1984, 1999) and into recent emotional-affective turn in social sciences (Navaro-Yashin 2008, Clough&Halley 2009). We focus on South Asia, as this area remains underresearched within the anthropology of emotions. Our aim is to bring together scholars who recognize the impo??rtance of analyzing everyday experiences and narratives in the context of emotions. The main questions of this panel revolve around the theme of socio-cultural particularism vs. universalism. What feelings, sentiments, passions and excitements specific to particular cultures and social realms of the subcontinent? Or can we theorize about regionalism or universalism of emotions? In order to answer these questions, we invite scholars who can contribute to the subjects of emotional vulnerability, emotional offense, and politics of emotion, emotional mobilization, etc. In the? course of the discussion, we shall elucidate and develop an anthropology of emotions, crisscrossing the region of South Asia.
