Health Governance, Health Status and Development in Lisu(Yobin) Community of Arunachal Pradesh, India.
Short Abstract
:
Health governance concerns the actions and means adopted by a society to organize itself in the promotion and protection of the health of its population. The rules defining such organization, and its functioning, can be formal or informal to prescribe and proscribe behaviour. The paper therefore attempts to critically analyse the formal and informal institution of health vis-a-viz, the health status of Arunachal Pradesh, keeping in view the Lisu community of Vijoyanagar. Thus, the paper delves into some of the severe questions like - are the existing plans the right schemes/policies for the development of a nation? Do the schemes really caters or reaches the inaccessible and marginalized people? The paper will further focus on how the Lisu (Yobin) community have themselves solved the health related issues and have come to a common consensus of achieving good health.

:

Governance can be defined as the actions and means adopted by a society to promote collective action and deliver collective solutions in pursuit of common goals. This a broad term that is encompassing of the many ways in which human beings, as individuals and groups, organize themselves to achieve agreed goals. Such organization requires agreement on a range of matters including membership within the co-operative relationship, obligations and responsibilities of members, the making of decisions, means of communication, resource mobilisation and distribution, dispute settlement, and formal or informal rules and procedures concerning all of these. Health governance concerns the actions and means adopted by a society to organize itself in the promotion and protection of the health of its population. The rules defining such organization, and its functioning, can be formal or informal to prescribe and proscribe behaviour. The paper therefore attempts to critically analyse the formal and informal institution of health vis-a-viz, the health status of Arunachal Pradesh, keeping in view the Lisu community of Vijoyanagar.
