Long Abstract
:

Nagas is a social group comprising of seventeen recognised tribe with diversified culture inhabited in the region of Nagaland. Drawing on ethno-historical and ethnography study, the present paper uses the concept of ‘structural violence’ to illuminate how structural inequalities is exhibited in the everyday life of the rural poor. The concept was coined by Norwegian Sociologist Johan Galtung in 1969, where he defines violence is embedded in the social structure exhibited normatively in the course of a daily life. It is often hidden and unrecognised which limits the social group in achieving the basic needs and standard of living. Hence, this type of violence is structural because it is done through the institution of human agency. The present paper focus not on the basis of tribe but selected the region based on the rationale of least developed district. In doing so, Kiphire district comes under the aspirational district. Therefore, the paper aims to explore the nature of structural violence and inequality exhibited towards the rural poor and the relationship between structural violence, suffering of the rural poor and structural impunity. As the society is progressing towards modernity and development, especially in the context of western civilization discourse, question arises on how do the locals perceive towards such notion and how do the community response towards injustice or inequality.
