Long Abstract

The utilization of healthcare services among migrants can be applied to determinants’ models and consider access as a general concept summarizing a set of more specific dimensions, such as availability, affordability, accessibility, adequacy and acceptability, as viewed by Fiedler (1981) and Anderson (1995). Maternal health services in the slums of fast-growing smaller cities are almost nonexistent.  Pregnant women in these areas are not able to receive proper maternal health care either due to unawareness, social and family relationships, or economic reasons.
The present study aims to assess the satisfaction level with the supportive strategy of healthcare implemented by the government. The favourable policy would provide the desired levels of accessibility and delivery of healthcare services to migrant women living in the slums of fast-growing smaller cities (Aligarh) in India. This study also examines whether there is any impact of family relationships on the use of women’s maternal health care.
1. To determine the access and utilization of government health facilities by the slum population.
2. To assess the quality of ANC received by women living in newly formed urban slums of Aligarh and document their satisfaction level.
Single-stage cluster random sampling is used for selecting the migrant’s household who have migrated and residing in the city for at least ten years. A total of 340 women who have delivered within the last one-year are identified for the study. Quantitative data about socio-economic demographic details and healthcare-seeking behaviour is collected through pre-tested, Interviewer-administered questionnaires.
In the slums of Aligarh city, availability, accessibility, adequacy, and affordability of healthcare facilities is also a significant problem. A majority of them had home deliveries, which are assisted by untrained birth attendants. This can be attained through improving healthcare services, including the availability of clinics, treatment and quality of care.
