Long Abstract
:

We live in a paradoxical and complex time. The debate on Anthropocene has generated much heat both in the domain of academics and international politics. It is often alleged that the international scientific communities have ignored the environmental, and ontological practices of indigenous and local communities.

The knowledge practised in the non-western world differs in its approach and understanding which is often branded as traditional and primitive.  There is an urgency to relook at the anthropogenic damage caused to the environment by the capitalist and market forces as the practice of the so-called scientific communities has raised doubt and questions. This paper looks at the ontological practices rooted in the local communities in two states of Northeast India. This study focuses on the gradual loss of local and Indigenous communities’ cosmological and ontological world-making practices in the context of changing man and environment relationships and emphasises the role of capitalism and developmentalism in the rapid climate variability.
