Abstract Title
:
The fear of others in contemporary Poland - a case for study
Short Abstract
:
In this presentation we depict conflict on the Polish-Belorusian border where a wall was built in order to prevent the pass of "illegal" migrants from the Middle East, Asia and Africa. It will be argued that the fear of others which is profoundly embedded in Polish society has been channeled and used by the Polish ruling clique to his own political interests.
Long Abstract
:

In this presentation we depict conflict on the Polish-Belorusian border where a wall was built in order to prevent the pass of 'illegal' migrants from the Middle East, Asia and Africa. The Polish state with its institutions has developed and implemented sophisticated propaganda which aims to dehumanize the migrants. They are represented as: 'savages', 'enemies', 'deviants', 'pagans', 'terrorists' who are controlled and used by Alexandr Lukaszenka, a Belarusian dictator. The critics of this kind of propaganda are either silenced or punished. Finally we will reflect on the breeding ground for this phenomenon. It will be argued that the fear of others which is profoundly embedded in Polish society has been channeled and used by the Polish ruling clique to his own political interests.
