Short Abstract

Doing visual anthropology, teaching, producing knowledge on the cameroonian societies and even beyond are seen as an exclusivity for the university of Maroua in Northern Cameroon. Researchers in the humanities and social sciences share certain objects, methods and empirical data. The present article aims to question the role of smartphone as a tool of Data collection, analysis, and dissemination in visual anthropology, based on filmic data and screenings in the construction of knowledge in social science. Starting from an empirical and experiential approach to the use of the action camera compared to a small tool as smartphone, it traces the personal experiences of the researcher in the field, his feelings and the methodology observed for the constitution and use of visual data in his research work. This analysis also traces the history of the emergence of visual anthropology as a discipline in North Cameroon and determines the personal motivations that led the author of this article to invest in this field of research, the tools used and strategies to share knowledge..
