Astronomical ideas of isolated tribes of India
Short Abstract
:
We have studied the astronomical beliefs of eight tribes in Central India from the West Coast to the Nicobar islands. We will summaries their astronomical beliefs and show that the depth of their beliefs are related to their environment and period of settlement
Long Abstract
:

Over the last decade, we have studied, in situ astronomical beliefs of about 8 isolated tribes of India. The tribes were identified on the basis of their isolation from the mainstream of the nation and hence preserved their conventional astronomical beliefs. The tribes include Gonds, Banjaras, Kolam, Korku, Pardhi, Cholannaikans, Wari, Nicobaries. 

We will discuss their astronomical beliefs and its relation to the environment in which they live, their lifestyle and period of settlement.
