The present paper endeavours to delve deep into social organization of Baiga Community , through functioning of clan and garh , which is inextricably related to their ecology and biodiversity . Critical analysis of the intangible cultural heritage in the form of folklore and world views of the community sheds light on eco-cosmology and thereby environmental sustainability. An attempt has been made to understand the nomenclature ‘Biaga ‘which means priest or medicineman which in turn is associated with their practice of ethnomedicine and shamanism which is a way of life or culture of the Baiga community.
The research design is based on exploratory research study which will provide a better understanding of the concepts of eco-cosmology and shamanism from subjective point of view based on etic and emic approach (Pike , 1954 ) and interpretive paradigm .
The universe of the present study is five Baiga Villages of Pusparaj Garh block in the district of Annupur of the state of Madhya Pradesh India.
This study is significant to the discourse of eco–cosmology as there is very little research study available on the PVTGs group and also the SDG ( Sustainable Development Goals ) of the fifteen Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 15) that aims to " Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss “
An understanding about their belief about the origin and nature of the universe, life and especially men which is associated with their traditional knowledge system will help to meet the objectives of bio cultural protocol and shall support the SDG of the United Nations.
