Short Abstract
:
The historical and anthropological accounts of Portuguese colonialism in Goa have neglected the contribution of women to the nationalist movement against the Portuguese rule. However, by merging ethnographic research and non-official archives like their court proceedings and newspapers that were published outside of the Portuguese government's control, we can uncover these overlooked voices from the past. Therefore, we can finally give these silenced women a platform to be heard. This approach also allows us to move away from fixed categories that restrict the colony's dynamism and ascribe agency to the local agents the colonial process and project.
