Gutti Koya community are forced migrants who migrated from Chattisgarh to neighboring states due to the conflict between the state and leftwing extremism since 2002. After the displacement to the then Andhra Pradesh state, there has been a continuous conflict between the Gutti Koya Community and the Forest department over Podu agriculture. Gutti Koyas cutting down the forest's trees for podu agriculture has been the focal point. The Gutti Koya community witnessed the burning of their houses by the state. Errabore habitation is located in the Kothagudem district of Telangana state. There are 37 Gutti Koya households in the habitation. In the continuous conflict between the community and the Forest Department, in the month of November 2022, a forest official was killed in the habitation during a confrontation over the grazing of cattle on a Forest Department plantation. The local Gram panchayat passed a resolution stating that the Gutti Koya community should be sent back to Chattisgarh. High infant deaths are registered among the Adivasi communities. With double disadvantages as an Adivasi community and forced migrants, Gutti Koya Community experiences high infant deaths. Errabore habitation also witnessed 4 infant deaths(Aged less than one year) from November 2022 to now. The central objective of the paper is to understand the how both killing of the forest officer and infant deaths has been produced and importantly how the state and society reacted to these two events. By this, I attempt to problematize how the state and society aggressively reacted to forest officer killing while they are ‘okay’ with the infant deaths in the Gutti Koya community.
