Long Abstract
:

This paper explores the older population's experience and added misery in their twilight years due to socioe-economic and socio-cultural changes. Older are more vulnerable and further marginalised within an already marginalised community. The adjustment Older have to make in old age depends upon several aspects, some of which are beyond their control. A person's family, caste, class, education, marital status, economic independence, religion, and region are crucial in defining her vulnerability in her old age. In this context, a detailed study has investigated the complexities of older living in Care homes; their social roles, power relations, status or position in the family, the life choices available to them, and the inequalities they face in the workforce after the age of 60 years. This study also emphasises how the above aspects shape older lives and augment their vulnerabilities. Surprisingly, these elements need to be considered more in locating the challenges and vulnerabilities of older. This study deploys this approach using older living in care homes in Lucknow city as its sample universe.
