It is a well-known fact that traditional beliefs, various, customs, perceptions, taboos, and totems related to health and disease among tribes are closely related to the treatment of disease. The health issues of rural communities, particularly tribal people, require special attention. Tribes in India experience distinct health issues that set them apart from other modern communities. Many tribal people still believe that diseases are caused by hostile spirits or by breaking a taboo. The goal of the current study is to find out the beliefs, taboos, and cultural measures of the Kolam tribe behind various diseases. The study has been done focusing on the Kolam tribe in the Zhari Jamni Tehsil of Yavatmal district, Maharashtra. The qualitative research method has been used to fulfill the objectives of the current study. The study concluded that the Kolam tribe has distinct explanations of health and sickness or diseases. Such as diseases and remedies among the Kolam tribe are closely associated with magico-religious beliefs, various taboos, and local perceptions. The strong belief in various taboos and magico-religious beliefs associated with the perception of illness and treatment among the Kolam tribe may be due to the poor healthcare system, inhospitable terrain, and lack of health literacy in the study area.
