This pestilence has created an unprecedented loss of human life; among them working women was not an exception. During the lockdown, they were required to do all household as well as official work simultaneously which created immense pressure on their mental health status. This review paper systematically summarizes 32 research articles retrieved from electronic databases i.e google scholar, PubMed, academia, and research gate and was selected from the year 2020 to 2023 mainly focusing on mental health status among working women in India during the COVID-19 pandemic followed by PRISMA flow diagram. The unfavourable situation faced by women affects their mental health condition (Bharati et al. 2020). Women who were engaged in self-help groups suffered from moderate levels of depression and anxiety and preferred indoor games followed by listening to music to be the most effective remedy to reduce mental illness during the pandemic (Behera et al. 2022). Time spent engaging in physical activity significantly decreased during lockdown which led to fatigue, headache as well as weight gain (Pandey & Pathak, 2023).
This present review reveals that mental health condition was severely impacted during the pandemic and psychological distresses among women significantly increased.
Women are the pillar of the society. They are often neglected due to gender discrimination. During the pandemic, they had to balance all household work along with their official work which led them towards many psychological problems. Efforts are required to assist women in household activities so that they can balance their official as well as other works equally, encourage them to be productive and appropriate psychological support can protect them from long time health effects. Although future research is required to better understand the mental health condition that came along with long time health effects.
