The Adivasis(tribal people) of Jungle Mahals, eastern India, worship the Earth Mother(Jaher Era) and think themselves as an integral part of earth’s body and soul. Though the Adivasi cosmology is evolutionary but it is different from Hindu cosmology. The Adivasi worldview (Jansim binti and Karam binti) advocates a mutual dependence between the human and the non-human world. According to their worldview, the human is not considered above the animal or plant as these provide for the habitation for human beings. Thus, the Adivasi worldview is contrary to the European worldview where the human is placed above the animals. According to ethnic concept, at first the Earth was a hot, burning ball without any life. She cooled down gradually during next thousands of years. After that, energy from heaven in the form of Thakur and Thakuran (the Supreme) along with Lita (principal bonga (spirit or God) of the Santals, always referred to as Marang Buru, the great mountain, the God of messenger who transmits all the worldly human problems to the notice of Thakur, he was the in charge of mankind and their guide) and other followers came down to mancha puri (Earth) from serma puri (heaven) with the help of tore sutam (gossamer thread). Thakur, Thakuran, Lita and other followers discovered a completely dry, barren Earth devoid of moisture and life. As per the wish of Thakur, Lita with the help of other followers dug out a well, water sprang out forcefully, mancha puri got flooded (worldwide flood). Everything got submerged in water. This stage depicts the steps of inorganic evolution that resulted in a cool (actually warm), wet and habitable Earth.
