Introduction

Domestic violence against pregnant women is a significant global public health concern that requires comprehensive and coordinated efforts to prevent and address the challenges. Various interventions can help prevent and address domestic violence during pregnancy. Yoga-based techniques as an intervention have been consistently shown to optimize psycho-physiological functioning leading to reduced stress and enhanced cognitive function and overall physical health. Therefore, the study aims to document the feasibility and acceptability of integrating yoga-based techniques in behavioral intervention packages for pregnant women experiencing domestic violence.

Methods

A pilot study was conducted prior to a randomized controlled trial was conducted on 30 pregnant women recruited between 18 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. The study group received the yoga-based intervention, which has various components such as Simple starching exercises, regulating breathing, meditation, and garbh sanskar (Meditating and forming a connection with the baby with positive affirmation), etc.

Findings

The women belong to heterogeneous religious backgrounds. We found that they could learn quickly due to the experiential effect and comply with the practice. The women liked the Garbh sanskar method as it was very natural and easy to connect with the baby. They were also told about the significant affirmation at this stage, which not only strengthens their mind but also gives a sense of purpose and direction, which is much beyond their immediate suffering. By enhancing the basic sense of inner stability, anxiety, and depression are reduced. Instead of being overwhelmed by constant ruminations of negative life experiences and their sense of inner helplessness and worthlessness, it becomes possible for women to focus on their happiness.

Conclusion

The result indicated clearly and consistently the power of the impact of yoga-based techniques in mobilizing the victim's inner resources, thereby empowering them to deal with the disrupted family situation.
