Water is not only an essential commodity or basic service. During the last three decades in India, an expansive water market has grown. Much of this owes growth of water market has to do with the inefficiencies and inabilities of municipalities in Indian cities. A huge market of water motors, water purifiers and water storage technologoes have grown putting not only an extra burden on people but also relating to growning consumer concerns. The inadequate supply of water has also given rise to growth of another business of suppliers of bottled water, popularly called RO water. Similalry, the materiality of water has chnaged the relations among the neighbours. Therefore, this paper traces the how water market, water business and water materiality define urbanity and urban choices in contemporary Indian cities.
