The department of Anthropology was established at Calcutta University in 1920, with L.K. Ananthakrishna Iyer from Kerala serving as one of the departments founding fathers. Although anthropologys roots in India can be traced back to the early stages of the colonial era, the academic discipline did not come into existence in India until that year. and the founding of the Anthropological Survey of India (ASI), which was created in 1945 by splitting from the Zoological Survey of India, deserve to be mentioned here.In Kerala, L.A. Krishna Iyer, the son of L.K. Ananthakrishna Iyer, and L.K. Balaratnam, the grandson of L.K. Ananthakrishna Iyer, continued the ethnological heritage. Prof. A.Aiyappan, a former vice chancellor of Kerala University, was a further anthropology titan. Prof. PRG Mathurs name must be included in the list of Keralas most influential anthropologists. The Kerala Institute for Research, Training and Development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KIRTADS) was founded in 1979 under the direction of Professor PRG Mathur and was formerly known as the Tribal Research and Training Institute (TR&TI). It was founded in 1970 with Professor A. Aiyappan serving as its Founding Special Officer. At a time when there was no Anthropology Department in any of Keralas universities, KIRTADS also became a centre for doctoral research in anthropology. Although the paper also discusses the disciplines illustrious background, its main focus is on how it is currently being taught at various colleges and universities. The ethnographic research tendencies right now, particularly in the context of Kerala, are also examined in this paper. Examine how Sociology and Anthropology relate to one another in many academic fields.
