The paper explores the beliefs, customs, and practices associated with burial in different cultures. Burying deceased human bodies in pots is a widespread funerary practice in the ancient world. It is commonly associated with poverty, child and infant burials, and the reuse of domestic vessels for burial indicates their low value.
This paper presents preliminary reports on accidental finds of pot burials from six different sites in and around Mizoram. The ongoing study carried out on behalf of the Mizo Archaeological Society, will involve scientific analysis of the samples in labs abroad and within India. Additionally, the paper briefly examines the pot burial traditions associated with the Mizo and their cognate tribes.
Overall, this report underlines the significance of ongoing archaeological studies in Mizoram, specifically focusing on pot burials and their cultural implications. It emphasizes the need for further research and analysis to gain a deeper understanding of past traditions in the region.
