The diverse range of parenting styles employs a fundamental role in the development of children by persuading academic performance, cognitive progression, socio-emotional development, and behavioral problems. However, a discrepancy is observed oftentimes, between the parent’s narrative of their behavior with children and the children’s perception of their parental behavior. Hence in this study, separate set of interviews were conducted with parents and their children to understand the responses achieved and variances observed.
Within the rubric of this larger argument, this paper not only studies the wide-ranging parenting styles but also how their children are affected mentally and emotionally, against the backdrop of a (g)local context. Research for this particular study was conducted among young adolescents and their parents through interview schedules in separate settings. And it is at this vantage point from which my research argument commences since an understanding of the differences among responses is all-the-more deserving to study.
For this particular research, data has been collected from both primary and secondary sources. While secondary sources include books, research papers, websites and articles, primary sources include interviews with parents and their children separately. I have attempted to keep my literary analysis of the secondary sources as exhaustive as possible. The analysis in this paper is mostly qualitative in nature.
