The world as well as India is facing an epidemiological transition. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become a major cause of ill health than that of other diseases combined. NCD contributes to 61.8 percent of deaths in India. Though studies have been conducted in urban and rural areas, data related to tribal communities is limited. The present study is an attempt to find out the prevalence of NCDs and their risk factors in the Oraon tribal community of Odisha. A total of 300 participants were surveyed including both males and females aged between 20-60 years from Dhankaouda block of Sambalpur district, Odisha by adopting the WHO STEPS method. This study reveals that the Oraons are in transition in terms of NCDs. The study recommends an urgent need for awareness in this area and for accessible health centers to be formulated for the improvement of tribal health.
