THE DYNAMICS OF FAMILY LIFE OF KANI TRIBAL COMMUNITY IN KERALA
Short Abstract
:
The tribes are the original inhabitant of the nation and known as Adivasi (aboriginal), Vanavasi (forest dweller), and Girijan (hill tribe). Marriage is an important phase of human life that forms through the bond between two individuals. Impact of modern and western education, industrialization, influence of urban culture and civilization has changed the process of living, thought, belief, and attitude of human being that gives less importance to the culture. This study addresses the marriage systems, unhappy marital relations or marital problems and domestic violence experience of tribal community couples from Kani tribes of Trivandrum, Kerala. This study effectively applied qualitative research methodology and methods from ethnographic approach. Convenience sampling technique applied for data collection and participant observation and case studies are the major research methods applied for this empirical study. The geographical locations for study includes Nettayam, Manithukki, Maruthamala, Eetimood at Vithura Panchayat in the district of Trivandrum, Kerala state, India. The findings indicate, there is an alarming situation exists among Kani tribes.

Kanikkar is one of the important tribal communities settled in South Kerala. According to 2011 Census, the total population of Kanikkar Community is 21251. They are very honest, active and the adults are usually short in structure. There is around 27 settlements are identified in these regions.
