Indigenous species, non-timber or medicinal plants, are associated with culture of tribals. Mostly they use and consume for their daily self-requirement. In few cases they sell their meager surplus products to earn their nominal income in the local market. After intiation of participatory forestry, various kinds of interventions like institutional, technological and markets took place as the safety net of their livelihoods. Long Abstract
:

Various biological species are identified in association with culture of many a number of Tribals or Indigenous peoples across the world, which are known as Indigenous species in common parlance. Those  they use and consume  for their  daily self requirement.   Of them, a large numbers are pertaining to non-timber forest products (NTFPs) including medicinal plants.  Most of them they collect from natural forests or in few cases they cultivate in their own land or courtyard as ex-situ conservation for beter use, followed  by primary or secondary processing. In few species they earn their nominal income , selling  the meager surplus  in the  local weekly-markets or on exchange basis with local traders or co- villagers.  In the wake of Participatory forestry or management, the initiatives were taken on the partnership basis among the villagers and the government sectors to enhance their incomes by institutional, technological and marjet interventions and also various conservation-cum customary practices, which are community specific. Various measures were taken in inventorization of rare and endangered species. It gave a new impetus in community-based natural resource management for achieving sustainable livelihoods and attaining sustainable development. Attempt has been made in this paper to discuss on the topic in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattishgarh states of India .
