Long Abstract
:

The North-eastern region of India is a region- rich in cultural diversity and traditional knowledge, including its Indigenous Healing System. The Indigenous Healing System of North East India is rooted in the belief that health and well-being are interconnected with nature and the environment. The system incorporates traditional practices such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, and spiritual healing. The traditional healers, often called ‘Shamans’, ‘Bejs’ or ‘Ojhas’, play a critical role in the system, as they are the custodians of knowledge and the primary healthcare providers for the indigenous communities. They use their knowledge and skills to diagnose and treat various illnesses, including chronic diseases, mental health issues, and spiritual disorders. While modern medicine has gained popularity in recent years, many people in the North East still rely on traditional healing systems as a primary means of healthcare. In this work, the review of earlier efforts in this field will be highlighted. Indigenous healing and contemporary medical procedures have been found to be strongly correlated in some research. Since the Indigenous Healing System of North East India is not only a valuable cultural heritage that continues to thrive and evolve in the region, it also reflects the people's deep connection with nature and their belief in holistic healing. This research strives to study and comprehend the value of traditional knowledge about materia medica and indigenous healing system, as well as its applicability in contemporary society.
